Technology: not teachers neither
students, we are all learners and creators - By Bárbara Godoy

The philosopher
Heraclitus said that `Change is the only permanent thing´. This idea is applied
to practical daily activities and institutions, like the school. The problem is
that usually the ones who have a higher power of decision are afraid of
changes, because restructuring is not an easy process; or have interests in the
permanence of what is conventional.
The Brazilian educational system,
as a reflection of the forces quoted above, remains the same since the last
century. Nevertheless, nowadays students cannot be taught as their
grandparents. They consist a different generation in another reality and have a
different ideology, so they need the educational system to change and feet
them.
The school could modify the
paradigm of the active teacher and the passive student to start. The youth
people need to develop their autonomy, capacity of reflection and critical
sense. Whether the students have the potential to create knowledge, why are
they being transformed in repeater beings?
In this context,
technology could be a great tool, allowing students to learn in different
situations and spaces, not only in the classroom, for example. It could also
make the exchange of knowledge between teachers and students possible, creating
new social roles for students and teachers, in which the first ones could get
involved practically with the school contents, be closer to what interests them
and interact with the knowledge also produced by them, while the second ones
would act like guides, helping the students to learn how to filter and put into
practice all the information they receive.
This way the
power of the technology as a breaker of the conventions related to the
paradigms that take place at school is evidenced. However, it is essential to
consider the possibility of the technology to work like an increasing factor of
the social inequality. Transforming the educational system consists also in the
accessibility of all individuals to school. To finish, it is important to have
in mind that technology should work as a supporting tool, not as the main focus
of education – this place is reserved to human beings that are not machines.
It´s so true ! Congratulations Barbara Godoy. It´s so nice to see a young woman like you with such an open mind and always thinking in the collectivity.
ResponderExcluirVery nice! I couldn't agree more
ResponderExcluirÉ bom nos sabermos seres questionadores. Alegro-me por vê-la irrequieta e insatisfeita, pois só assim buscamos a mudança.
ResponderExcluirParabéns por você ser quem é.
